Press Release

FMLA, Union Avoidance, and Wage-Hour Disasters Take Center Stage at 14th Annual Advanced Employment Issues Symposium

Nashville, TN (June 2, 2009) - M. Lee Smith Publishers LLC has finalized the agenda for the 2009 Advanced Employment Issues Symposium, America's leading employment law conference. The program will assist employers and Human Resources managers in complying with new Family & Medical Leave Act regulations, fending off union campaigns, and avoiding payroll practice catastrophes, among other topics.

Now in its 14th year, the 2009 Symposium will bring together 34 employment law attorneys and hundreds of HR professionals from across the nation to discuss crucial legislative, regulatory and judicial shifts in the compliance landscape for employers. Hot new topics for 2009 include the Lilly Ledbetter and Paycheck Fairness Acts, avoiding the rash of age discrimination claims arising out of increased layoffs, best practices in talent management and recruiting practices during a recession.

Attendees will also learn the latest ways to adjust workplace policies to avoid claims of sexual, religious, and racial harassment, discrimination, retaliation, overtime errors, and improper leave denial.

"The new Presidential administration has shown that, regardless of the economy, it's eager to make significant changes to the laws governing the employer-employee relationship. That's why we've assembled high-level employment law experts to lead the Symposium. This event will also provide best-practices from some of the leading thinkers in online employee communication, progressive discipline, and non-compete agreements," says program moderator John B Phillips, Jr. of the law firm of Miller & Martin and formerly Assistant General Counsel with Coca-Cola Enterprises, Inc.

HR professionals and employers will choose to attend this event in either at Caesars Palace Las Vegas or at the Hilton in downtown Nashville.
